PATTAYA: — There are a lot of ways to get your visa extended in Thailand, but hurling an expletive at an Immigration Division officer is not one of them, as an Irishman now facing deportation in Pattaya found out first-hand.
Brian Daniel Walsh, 37, was arrested for overstaying his 15-day visa by four days and told to leave the country within 24 hours after dropping an “F-bomb” on Pol. Capt. Maneeporn Boonlieng at the Chonburi Immigration Office in Jomtien Beach June 28.
Walsh, it seems, was incensed at having to pay 3,900 baht to legally remain in the kingdom after screwing up his own visa situation. He had just completed a “visa run” to the border to extend his stay in Thailand, but thought his new visa was for 30 days.
Apparently, he never looked at his passport – until it was too late – to discover that crossing over the border by land gets you only 15 days.
Maneeporn informed the unhappy Irishman that, even though he was now illegally in Thailand on an expired visa, she would let him extend it another 11 days for 1,900 baht. In addition, he’d have to pay the overstay fine of 500 baht a day.
